Bonito Extension 2020

TOUR DETAILS
TOUR DATES
5 August 2020 - 8 August 2020 Fully booked

Bonito is a small town south of Cuiba and the Pantanal, where we will be located for this extension. A town may seem like an odd place to stay for a wildlife experience, yet the experiences and activities around Bonita are excellent, providing top class opportunities to gain incredible images of a variety of subjects. The main attraction is the Macaw sinkhole, where red and yellow scarlet macaws fly in and out from, all day long. The sinkhole provides a variety of backgrounds and this means you have the opportunity to photograph these bird species in a wide variety of positions. It is some of the most challenging photography you will encounter, but also some of the most rewarding; with the scarlet colours of the birds contrasting beautifully against the dark sides of the sinkhole. Due to the high variety of species around the sinkhole, we will spend three sessions at this location. Curious and beautifully marked armadillos can be found scuttling around the sinkhole, with toco toucans,  surucua trogons, peach-fronted parrots and ferruginous pygmy owls among the many other species that can also be found at the sinkhole.

Beyond the sinkhole, terea re excellent opportunities for finding giant anteaters in the fields alongside the roads. these can be approached very closely and make for excellent images. Other species that can be found in the area are bare-faced curassows, brown capuchin monkeys and Azara’s agoutis, broad-nosed caimans, crimson-crested woodpeckers, and the very good looking burrowing owls.

Bonito, its surrounds and the excellent sinkhole make an extension here very worthwhile. Expect to return with some amazing images.

About your host, Andre Cloete

André grew up in the African bush with literally one hand on his binoculars and the other hand on the camera. An avid birdwatcher at that young age, he was given his first SLR in 1990. The passion of birding turned into one of photography and in 2004 Andre co-founded C4 Photo Safaris with Shem Compion.
